Newly constructed functioning icehouse provides ice and refrigeration for a fishing camp, embodying a classic, turn-of-the-century feel.
Authentic Icehouse With Craftsmanship
Ice is harvested from the lake in winter. The foundation is crafted from board-formed, distressed concrete with a hemlock floor over crushed stone for drainage. The walls feature salvaged, hand-hewn hemlock timbers with dovetail corners. The roof is constructed from bark-on eastern white cedar logs, topped with a planted roof of naturalized species for insulation.
The Results
The result is a historically inspired, fully functional icehouse that seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape, providing authentic refrigeration for the fishing camp while maintaining the charm and craftsmanship of a turn-of-the-century structure.
