The Reborn Rhapsody Cottage

The reborn Rhapsody Cottage was completed in the summer of 2012. The intent of the owners was for the rebuild to reflect the spirit and charm of the original cottage, but to have an entirely reconfigured floor plan. An essential component of the design was creating an outdoor porch/deck space that is an extension of the living/dining /kitchen area. A 3rd-floor attic/eyrie space was also included.

The Results

This work was done in a cost-effective way using a simple form. The exterior is composed of pre-stained cedar shingles, wood windows and trim, and an asphalt shingle roof. The interior package uses a combination of drywall and bead board, stock cabinets and built-ins, hardwood flooring, and a manufactured wood-burning fireplace with metalbestos flue. Features include propane-fired radiant in-floor heat and subway-tiled baths with glass shower enclosures.
