Suspension Footbridge With Thoughtful Design

Idea: How about a suspension footbridge to bypass?

The collaborative effort, led by Todd Richardson and including engineer Albert Putnam, was guided by many decisions. A deliberate amount of ‘sway’ was built in to maintain a sense of passage.

Hemp rope proved to be the most stable after re-stretching. Bark-on white cedar posts were hollowed out to conceal steel posts and structure.

The Results

The bridge now avoids disturbing the delicate forest floor below.
